How to Pay Off a Mortgage in 10 Years (or Sooner)

How to pay off a mortgage early, with the exact extra payment needed to finish in 10, 15 or 20 years and the five ways that make it possible.

Common questions

How much of my paycheck goes to taxes?

On a $60,000 salary a single filer in Arkansas pays about 19.6% in 2026: $5,020 federal income tax, $4,590 Social Security and Medicare and $2,127 state income tax, leaving $48,263 a year. The share changes with your state, filing status and deductions. Use the pay stub at the top of this page, or open your state’s paycheck calculator.

How do I pay off my mortgage early, or in 10 years?

Pay more than the required amount and tell your lender it is for principal. Even $200 a month extra can take years off a 30-year loan. To finish a $300,000 30-year loan at 6.5% in 10 years you would pay about $3,406 a month, which is $1,510 above the regular payment, so many people aim for 15 or 20 years first. Use the mortgage payoff calculator to see your new payoff date and the interest you save.

What is my take-home pay in my state?

Take-home pay is your salary minus federal tax, Social Security, Medicare and state income tax. Enter your pay and state in the paycheck calculator to see the amount that reaches your bank account.

Are the calculators really free?

Yes. Every calculator on Tidy Math is free to use. There is no sign-up, no paywall and no limit on how many times you use them.

Do you store the numbers I type?

No. The math runs in your browser, so the numbers you enter stay on your device. They are not sent to a server.

How accurate are the results?

Federal tax figures come from IRS Revenue Procedure 2025-32 and Publication 15-T for 2026, Social Security and Medicare rates from the SSA and the IRS, state income tax from each state’s 2026 rules as compiled by the Tax Foundation, and BMI categories from the CDC. Each tool page lists its sources. Results are estimates for planning and learning, so check big decisions with a professional.

Can I use Tidy Math on my phone?

Yes. Every page works on phones, tablets and desktops, and the answer updates as you type.

How often do you add new calculators?

New calculators and guides are added as they are finished. Join the newsletter and you get one short email when something new launches.
